I recently had the opportunity to observe Gallia County Sheriff Deputy Jeff Provens working with his K9, Chan. You will notice how Chan’s demeanor changes once he detects the odor of illegal drugs and he “indicates” the presence of the drug by being very still and sitting by the drug.
Gallia County is fortunate to have five drug dogs that work our streets and remove a tremendous amount of illegal narcotics from our communities. In addition to Chan, the other canines that serve Gallia County are Milla, handled by Chief Josh Davies of the Rio Grande Police Department; Vargo, handled by Officer Richard Harrison of the Rio Grande Police Department; Thunder, handled by Deputy Jerry Darst of the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office; and Gina, handled by Officer Mark Still of the Gallipolis Police Department.
