MAJOR DRUG CONVICTIONS UPHELD BY APPELLATE COURT

Gallia County Prosecuting Attorney, Jason D. Holdren, announces that the Fourth District Court of Appeals recently upheld two jury convictions from 2017.

Michael D. Simpson, of Dayton, Ohio, was convicted by a Gallia County jury in April of 2017 of Trafficking in Cocaine, Trafficking in Heroin, Possession of Cocaine, and Possession of Heroin. Thereafter, Simpson was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison by Judge Margaret Evans. Simpson appealed his convictions to the Fourth District Court of Appeals. Simpson’s convictions were upheld. In this case, Simpson was transporting 160 grams of cocaine, 29 grams of crack cocaine, and 2 grams of heroin, with an approximate street value of $40,000, from Dayton, Ohio, to Charleston, West Virginia.

Andraya L. Washington, of Dayton, Ohio, was convicted by a Gallia County jury in May of 2017 of Trafficking in Heroin and Possession of Heroin. Thereafter, Washington was sentenced to 9 years in prison by Judge Margaret Evans. Washington appealed her convictions to the Fourth District Court of Appeals. Washington’s convictions were upheld. In this case, Washington was transporting almost 100 grams of heroin, with an approximate street value of $30,000, from Dayton, Ohio, to a residence on Route 7 South in Gallia County.

Both cases resulted from traffic stops initiated by Trooper Matthew Atwood of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
