Gallia County Prosecuting Attorney, Jason D. Holdren, announces that Marc A. Eblin, II, age 40, of Gallipolis, Ohio, was convicted earlier this week of Failure to Comply with the Order or Signal of a Police Officer, a felony of the third degree. Eblin was arrested on August 2, 2018, after he led deputies with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office on a high-speed pursuit for several miles. During the chase, Eblin hit speeds over 90 MPH, committing numerous traffic violations. Eblin’s chase passed by the fairgrounds as pedestrians were walking alongside the road and attempting to cross the road to enter the Gallia County Fair.
“First and foremost, I am very thankful that no one was injured in this pursuit, especially the youth of our county at the fair,” stated Holdren. “I am pleased that Mr. Eblin has been convicted for his actions that put the lives of so many in danger. Gallia County has some of the best and brightest in law enforcement, so please know, if you run you will be caught.” Holdren thanked Deputy Randy Johnson and Chief Deputy Troy Johnson for apprehending Eblin.
Sheriff Matt Champlin added, “I’m proud of the diligence of our officers and their performance in this matter. It’s very unfortunate that Mr. Eblin chose to jeopardize the safety of our citizens and our officers in the fashion which he did. But, I’m thankful for the safe resolution to the pursuit and the successful prosecution which will now hold Mr. Eblin responsible for his actions.”
Eblin is set to be sentenced by Judge Margaret Evans in the Gallia County Common Pleas Court on November 13, 2018. Eblin faces up to 36 months in prison for his conviction.
